ESG and Lean for SMEs
VSME · CSRD (Dir. EU 2022/2464, amended by Dir. EU 2026/470)The Omnibus Directive (EU) 2026/470 sharply narrowed CSRD's scope — only companies with over 1,000 employees and over €450 million turnover remain directly obliged to report. But sustainability data requests from those large clients haven't gone away; the EU has introduced a legal "value chain cap" on what they can ask of small suppliers, and VSME is the recognised standard for that cap. In practice: you no longer need a full CSRD-grade report to answer a large client correctly — just the level you're legally protected at. Operational efficiency, meanwhile, remains what makes funding any ESG measure possible in the first place.

We work with consumer goods (including from India), machinery and equipment, complete production lines, and a range of other products from the EU and Asia — each category has different customs and transport requirements, and we handle all of them.
For sourcing within the EU, the route is simpler — no customs, just transport and direct invoicing.

What is PPWR and who does it apply to?
PPWR (Regulation EU 2025/40) is the EU regulation on packaging and packaging waste. It applies to any importer or seller placing packaged products on the EU market, regardless of company size.
What documents are needed to import from China or India?
Typically: commercial invoice and packing list, Bill of Lading or Air Waybill, certificate of origin, an active EORI number, an import customs declaration, CE marking where applicable, a safety data sheet where the product requires it, and a transport contract with cargo insurance.
Does an SME need to report on ESG if it doesn't fall under CSRD?
Not directly. Since the Omnibus Directive (EU) 2026/470, CSRD only applies to companies with over 1,000 employees and over €450 million turnover, but those companies can still request sustainability data from SME suppliers, within a legal "value chain cap". The voluntary VSME standard is the recognised reference for that cap.
